Law Enforcement Torch Run

The Holly Springs Police Department is proud to be a participating agency with the North Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run, raising money and helping more than 40,000 athletes train and compete in the Special Olympics of North Carolina.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1981. Wichita, Kansas Police Chief Richard LaMunyon created the Torch Run to help law enforcement become more active in the community and support Special Olympics Kansas. Known as "Guardians of the Flame," law enforcement members and Special Olympics athletes carry the "Flame of Hope" into opening ceremonies of local, state and world games events. Today, more than 97,000 law enforcement members carry the "Flame of Hope" annually around the world. The flame symbolizes courage and celebration of diversity, uniting communities around the globe.
